Causes and Development of Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis can be caused by a number of factors. The most common causes of spinal stenosis are degenerative changes in the spine as we age, as well as the subsequent transition to its structure and structural integrity. As a result, people with chronic pain, sports injuries, or lifting heavy objects may develop spinal arthritis.

Although not limited to aging, injuries such as falls/trips or vehicular collisions that negatively affect discs can cause tissue breakdown and lead to Spinal Stenosis pathology. Arthritis is one of the most common causes of Spinal Stenosis because chronic inflammation can cause soft tissue destruction.

Other conditions that cause spinal compression and may contribute to Spinal Stenosis are as follows:

-Paget's Disease
-Epidural Lipomatosis
-Tumors (benign or cancerous)
-Herniated or Nonherniated Disc Protrusions
-Congenital Canal Stenosis
